*I began this unit with a sub, home sick with sick babies.  It did not go as well as I’d hoped, which is a shame.  I was REALLY looking forward to it.  We did read the following in addition to excerpts from Gulliver’s Travels and watching the movie.   Any fabulous suggestions for next year!? Mark Twain’s “Advice to Youth” (1882) Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” (1729)

“Rockstar” by Nickleback (PG 13 song? hmmm…)

One Response to “Satire”

  1. Hey – I’m a teacher in Georgia and have really enjoyed browsing through your blog. I’ve taught satire for a while, and one thing that helps my 10th graders understand it is showing clips (video) or pieces from The Onion (satirical news source) – they think it’s hilarious and really get the idea – then I dive into Swift 🙂
